  • Our Services

    Vessel Operations
In 2013 Omualu Fishing acquired a motor fishing vessel named “Green Sea”. The vessel was converted from a freezer hake trawler into a mid-water trawler, making it the first Namibian flagged vessel in mid-water fishery. The vessel has a capacity to catch 10,000 mt of horse mackerel per annum and has a crew complement of fifty five seamen. Other vessels are chartered where necessary to catch the allocated quotas.

  • Factory Operations

    • Omualu acquired a fish processing plant, formerly known as Talanam in 2014. The plant has a floor coverage 3800 sqm on an erf of 9000 sqm and is operated by seven hundred employees (mostly women) in shifts. The plant boasts world-class facilities that allow us to process fish to the highest standards. The factory operation adheres to the highest global food safety standards. The facility is approved by the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) for exports to the European Union.

    • We provide a variety of processing options for our clients including retail bags, individually quick frozen (IQF), private-label and plain and bulk packaging. The plant has six plate freezers which can hold 6mt each at a time and four blast freezers which can hold 20mt of product at a time.

    • Fresh, frozen, retail ready and value added
Omualu has various agreements with fishing companies to process their fish and seafood products according to specific requirements. These include, among others, hake, monk, horse mackerel, john dory, blue shark, tuna, squid and by-catches. Some of the raw material is imported.

    • Fish is received whole round or headed and gutted into the factory and is processed by:
      Cleaning
      Grading
      Filleting
      Portioning
      Skinning
      Mincing
    • Products are then packed, interleafed, IQF (individually quick frozen) or IWP (individually wrap packed), or packed in retail packaging as per the clients requirements. Horse mackerel is graded as 16-, 16+, 18+, 20+ and 25+.

    HACCP certification
Hazard analysis and critical control points, or HACCP, is a systematic preventive approach to food safety. It covers biological, chemical, and physical hazards in production processes and designs measurements to reduce these risks to a safe level. In this manner, HACCP is referred to as the prevention of hazards rather than finished product inspection. The HACCP system can be used at all stages of a food chain, from food production and preparation processes, to packaging and distribution. HACCP compliance is regulated by NSI to which Omualu subscribes.

    ISO 9001
The ISO 9000 family of quality management systems standards is designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while adhering to statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product. ISO 9000 series are based on eight quality management principles.
    Principle 1: Customer Focus
    Principle 2: Leadership
    Principle 3: Involvement of people
    Principle 4: Process approach
Principle 5: System approach to management
    Principle 6: Continual improvement
